Corn, maize is a genus of annual herbal plants of the family Gramineae. After wheat and rice ше is the most important cereal crop in the world. Presumably, corn is the oldest grain crops on earth.
In the tropics and subtropics, it is cultivated mainly for food grains, flour and cereals serving as variety of foods, including national specialties. Great amount of corn is processed into starch, alcohol, beer, glucose, sugar, oil, vitamins and many other types of products that serve as raw materials for various industries. From corn stalks, cobs and pods they produce paper, vinyl, rayon, insulation materials, artificial cork, film etc. Stigmas of maize are widely used in medical practice as a decoction or infusion.
Corn is extremely significant as a fodder crop. Grains, products of its processing, fresh, fry and ensiled-type green mass serve as a fodder.
